BOUGARABOU DRUM

BOUGARABOU DRUM

Originally from the Casamance in the South of Senegal, the bougarabou drum is a cross between a djembe drum, for its dynamic power and a conga, for its rounded mellow tones. The head is made from cowskin with the short hair left on and the body from thinibua cedar wood. Hand carved directly from Ghana, the drum is known as a bougarabou because of the distinctive sounds it produces, a warm mellow tone, sharp slap and deep resonant bass.
