The Tabla originates from North India and consists of a set of two drums, treble and bass. They are distinct from most other drums in the world, in that each drum is played with a different hand. Very seldom do you see both hands playing on one drum. The two tabla drums are, the Bayan (left drum base note) and the Dayan (right drum). The Dayan is also called the Tabla. Both have a body, which is closed at the bottom, and both have a skin made of goat and cow leather, which is covered with a second skin around the rim. In the middle of the skin there is a black spot that is called the Gab. The treble drum is tuned by knocking the wooden blocks with a small hammer. Finer tuning is then carried out by hitting the leather hoop of the skin either up or down, depending on the pitch required. This tabla sounds great and is made for both the beginner or experienced tabla player. Complete with hammer, supporting rings and black zip up carry case.
